Safe and Efficient Material Handling
It is a not-so-fun fact that, in many machine shops, more time and effort is spent in moving parts in, out, and around the shop than in actually machining them. And if your job involves a large or heavy part, they just can’t accommodate you at all. Not so at Springfield Tool & Die, where we have invested in the equipment and infrastructure to help us keep our parts moving swiftly and safely through the shop from start to finish. That same infrastructure gives us the ability to handle those oversized and heavy parts with consummate efficiency and safety.
Forklifts Lift Productivity
Superior efficiency in material handling begins the instant a truck rolls up to our fully enclosed, secure loading bay. Our pallet jacks and manual stack lifters help make dock work safer and more efficient, but nothing beats the power and maneuverability of a forklift when it comes to handling heavy loads. Our Toyota hydraulic forklift maxes out at 8,850 lbs., making it more than capable of keeping our line moving along without the bottlenecks that can occur in less-well-equipped shops.
Multiple High-Capacity Cranes
With a five-ton capacity crane in the main bay, three tons over the boring mills, and one ton over the lathe shop, Springfield T&D is set up to handle your heavy or oversized parts safely and efficiently. Precision machining depends on stable positioning of the workpiece, which can be challenging when it is too heavy to be moved manually. Our overhead cranes allow Springfield machinists to safely move and secure heavy parts for machining, ensuring accurate alignment and setup for the procedure. An added benefit of our overhead cranes is that they give us the ability to do lift fixture load testing in-house.
Drive-Through Loading Bay
Springfield offers convenient, private, and secure in-and-out loading and unloading from our fully enclosed drive-through loading bay. Literally, drive your semi or long flatbed trailer in one side of the building and out the other. In between, with the structure of the building providing perfect cover from all angles, you can transfer your cargo at our well-appointed loading bay in total privacy and out of the elements.
Add to this our enviable location right off Interstate 85 near the Greenville/Spartanburg International Airport cargo terminal, and Springfield Tool & Die becomes as appealing for its convenience as it is for its capabilities.
